In this page you'll find a flash application that can extract URLs from a given web page and display relationships as a graph of nodes and edges. This is primarily a POC to make use of the Graphing component which i built in the past.

Implementation

The graphing component of this application dynamically builds the graph by attaching node MovieClips into the stage and connecting them using Flash's line drawing methods (such as lineTo) which are redrawn whenever a node is moved.

The flash application makes use of builtin Flash Components (Window, Tree, etc) and some custom components (IconButton, ColorPicker).

Finally, there is also some Javascript-Flash integration to generate the unfolding effect - a call to a Javascript function is made from within the movie which gradually increases the size of the container element (through setTimeout). The Javascript integration happens via the Flash JavaScript Integration Kit from Macromedia (Adobe).

To scan a page the movie needs to obtain its contents - in doing so you will come up against cross-domain restrictions but you can get around this by using the web server as a proxy.
